...because if it as very powerfully obvious what it looked like, as in this case, a "ghostly figure", I would probably "mentally steel myself" for what I might see if I were to follow it. Basically I would want to quickly imagine many possibilities and center my mind on what I'd want (or expect) to see. Of course this would happen in a matter of a second or three...not very long at all. I am assuming that "immediately investigate" means to have zero hesitation, which I doubt I would have the courage to do here, since I have to consider that I may not be a neutral observer only...kinda like looking both ways before crossing the street, ya know?
ALSO, this only applies in this case that I was alone....if I was with a friend or someone I trusted I would investigate immediately. I would go so far as to say I could just be on my cell phone with someone and investigate immediately. Something about experiencing something like that with others would greatly diminish the fear/hesitation response. Safety in numbers?
Ok....this is edit #3!!! This is a great poll by the way...something I wanted to add is how do I instinctively feel about the figure? Underneath any anxiety brought about by a sudden event like that...do I feel that it has intent, and of what kind? If it was what I call a vampiric entity of some kind, did I feel like my energy was being drained by it's presence...was it a dark black inhuman figure that smelled of rotten meat...in those cases I may teeter on actually not investigating, and if I do it would be forcefully investigate, basically using the fear emotion and turning it into anger (which of course is very easy to do) to confront what may be a malevolent being and getting it out of my home. In most cases though I would not be angry but ...oh what the word I'm looking for...maybe "business mode" ? Well I'm rambling, it's 6 am, maybe the spirits in my apt. are getting restless!! I'm joking, my life is quite mundane, thank you. hehe
I put "immediately investigate," mainly because I would not want there to be a chance for it to "get away." From all accounts, these kinds of events can be extremely fleeting, and I wouldn't want to miss it. It seems like it would be very easy to convince myself it was something else if I let it sit so long that there was nothing there when I went to the room.
The state of my approach would probably vary greatly depending on my state of mind at the time. If I were feeling particularly bold and excited, I would probably immediately rush to the room, focusing my mind as I approached. If I were feeling timid, I would probably turn on all of the lights on the way.
Of course, my greatest hope would be that I would see something life-transforming that was not dangerous. Probably my greatest fear would be that there would be nothing unusual at all, leaving me to wonder about the experience. A threatening paranormal experience would probably rank right after a positive one, for I am confident in my ability to deal with it (as you said, turning fear into anger can be very useful in such situations), and such an experience would energize me and inspire me.
I think that what I would honestly *expect* to find would be something vague, like a tingling presence or a noise or a shadow that fades away among the other shadows. And of course, expecting that, that is most likely what I would encounter. I know that a person who is truly open could experience something much more profound, but we only experience what we're ready for. I'm working on being open to all possibilities, especially the ones I want to manifest. As I do so, I'm definitely having more interesting experiences.
I put that I would work up the courage and investigate, if it didn't seem too scary.
If it looked like a solid black figure in broad daylight and it was making creepy noises, I'd probably run out screaming, and move.
If I saw a little girl playing in the hall or something like that, it would frighten me, but I'd work up the courage to deal.
I think I would be very happy to meet an orb or sprite I can interact with and talk to. It would shock me at first, then I'd adapt. Could make a new small paranormal friend!
However I know WHY it scares me...
If you pay attention to the media about ghosts and spirits and the like, all of it's made up to be fairly disturbing and bad and almost ALL of it is 100% bullcrap.
How many ghost movies are out there that portray a POSITIVE image of paranormal activity.... the Casper movie? Is that it? Maybe the Beetlejuice cartoons (I loved those and still do!) Maybe you can say the "Others" had a clever ending..
Almost nothing else. Even "Ghost Hunters" is bad. COME ON.
What "may" or may not be real on the internet as far as ghost sightings is always paired with freaky music or "Me and my roomate moved out immediately O_O"
I'm sorry, but that crap has got to stop. I'm sick and tired of spookies!
Everyone's terrified of the Paranormal because of the media and retarded sensationalism.
I have many interests, including philosophy, enlightenment, the paranormal, technology, books, movies, free running, biking, swimming, gaming, writing, website design and programming.
