Trance, Dance, and Techno are by far my favorite types of music to work out to. I usually just set Winamp to my favorite Trance station (called Digitally Imported), or turn on one of the Techno stations on cable DMX. Some of the ones you mentioned, like Zombie and Evanescence, are among my favorites when I'm in the mood for rock/metal. Industrial gets me pumped up. I love all types of music. I've even been known to work out to Beethoven. Any music that is fast-paced and energetic works for me.
Great question, by the way!
I know what you mean. I like a lot of soundtracks. Conan, The Matrix, and laugh if you will...Mortal Kombat. I usually only train with music when I'm doing body weight stuff, hitting the bag, or shadow boxing. I can listen to music while doing forms and Qi Gong, but some times silence is nice. The monks get mountains, waterfalls, and streams to meditate around. When you live mostly on concrete, the ole IPod can sure improve your environment.
I've worked out to The Matrix and Mortal Kombat soundtracks lots of times myself. If I had the Conan soundtrack, I'm sure that would be in there too. I always have a more energetic work-out session when I'm listening to music, whether I'm doing something aerobic or something heavy. I often work-out without music, though, so that I can work on my website, writing, or other projects in my head while I'm working out. I get a lot of work done this way, and when the good ideas are flowing, I'm often fueled by this energy just as much or more than I am by music. Nature is also very invigorating. I've always lived near at least a small stream, and take advantage of that quite often. I agree totally that it would be wonderful to have nearby mountains and waterfalls for inspiration while meditating and exercising.
I like about anything upbeat and happy for that. I also have a bellydancing music collection I absolutely love.
My favorite work out music is anything that makes me forget I'm working out
Yes, if it ceases to be fun, I just stop and look for something else. Nobody's paying me to work out, I'll do whatever the hell I want. If I don't feel better *now* and it's not fun, and not profitable, it's not worth the time for me personally.
So far dancing is the only thing that sticks for me.
For me, all kinds of exercise help me feel better now and in the long run. Dancing is my favorite, followed closely by free-running and swimming, but even a rote weight-lifting routine can be very enjoyable. There are times when I've been at the computer pretty much all day for days, and sheer mental inertia causes me to feel like I'm not in the mood to exercise, but then my lack of physical energy finally makes me realize that I *need* it. When I do finally get up and exercise, at first it can be difficult, but then within a few minutes, I start to feel a *lot* better. The best times are when I get into a good routine of getting at least 20 minutes of exercise a day every day. I feel great nearly all of the time these days.
hell, you only live once and might as well give it all you can wether partying like a motha or driving 125 to stay alive or 210 so you can do it again..in other words have all the freakin' fun you can possibly have and dont worry about all the bull s**t..
