Sick of "Food scares"
It's like every month there's a new "bad food" floating around...whether it's bad lettuce, bad meat, now bad tomatoes.
Oh no! 200 americans have gotten sick from bad tomatoes. As a result, most restaurants have stopped serving tomatoes...as in you can't get them even if you ask. NO ONE EAT ANY MORE TOMATOES EVER!!!!!
GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. Doesn't anyone realize that a lot more than 200 americans get sick from bad food that's NOT related to tomatoes? What, are we gonna ban all food now?
I've heard that a possible reason that restaurants have stopped serving tomatoes is a preventative measure against our extremely litigious society. Ok, every time I order food, will I have to sign a waiver?
I mean, come on. I'm no tomato connoisseur, but when I got to Wendy's and order a frikkin chicken sandwich for almost 4 bucks, there better be a tomato. Ultimately it feels like someone is trying to profiteer from our fear-based society.
In closing, it's not the food that's making me sick, it's the fearmongering.

I had a Wendy's roast chicken sandwich the night the Great Tomato War began.
It had a tomato slice on it. Nay, TWO of them.
It was delicious.
I didn't get sick. In fact, I felt marvelous afterwards.
Ultimately, how many people did they really diagnose with E.Coli from this? Did they do fecal tests on Everyone? NO. They don't have TIME for that.
Lots of people came in saying "Oooh, I have stomach cramps and diarreah." and they all were passed off with the same thing..
...nevermind the fact the same people also probably had french fries with tomato'd fast food meals, as well as a GIANT MILKSHAKE. Lactose intolerance interacting with greasy food? No way, it's the Diseased Vegetable Conspiracy.
We got a Border Bowl from Taco Bell the other day, and it was without tomatoes. At the time, I thought maybe they were just using the tomatoe scare to save some pennies on tomatoes, but it seems everyone is doing it. We got Subway yesterday, and no tomatoes.
It does make sense, though. If their tomato source could have been contaminated, I could easily see some lawyers "proving" that it was their fault when certain customers got sick, due to negligence, ie serving food they knew *might* have been contaminated. If this were a more forgiving sociey, they might not worry about it, but a lot of people are lawsuit-crazy in America.
Personally, while I miss tomatoes, I can understand the position of the restaurants. I'm sure if it were some permanent situation, they'd bring back tomatoes and just say "eat them at your own risk," but since it's a temporary thing, they're just waiting till their tomato supply is "proven safe" again.
but I've still not had a sandwich at Wendy's yet. It's my own form of protest!
a few days ago. We were actually surprised to see the tomatoes on the sandwiches. Good stuff.
