Blood, Sex, and Wooded Paths

August, 05, 2008

In the first dream I remember of the night, I was in an alien world. I was part of a strange culture. There was a lot of red in the atmosphere and the ground. At one point I was standing by a large adobe-style home in a red-and-brown desert. The sky was mostly red, with a deep dark blue in the distance over the red mountains. The people talking to me were humanoid, but strange enough looking that I actually can't remember exactly what they looked like. I was a little kid. They were talking about a prophecy that one would be born who could stand the blood of our enemy, and that my mom put more blood on me now that they were here and could observe. I had visions of giant shrimp-like creatures whose blood was like acid to these people. My mom put more blood on my right leg, so they could see that it did not hurt me. At this very moment, in my waking life, my cat, who was sleeping between my legs, scratched my right leg. Half asleep still, I gently pushed her off the bed with my right foot, and she snagged my big toe badly with her claw while trying to catch herself from falling, drawing blood. At that moment, I realized the connection to the dream.

I was in a house with a cute girl I used to know. She came to visit me out of the blue. We were talking, then started having sex. Then we talked some more, and she basically said, “I just wanted to see you again. I'm not really supposed to be here.” A car pulled up outside, and the doors opened. There were seven people in the car, including her husband, my sister Terri and her husband Steve, and family friends Pam and Tim. I knew the other two people in the dream, though not in this world. I smiled and waved at everyone. I felt a bit “left out,” because they were all going bowling and hanging out together. Her husband gave me a look that said, “I don't want to have anything to do with you,” then looked away as she got in the car. I said bye to the others, then went inside.

The last dream I was having before I awoke this morning placed Becca and me in Cherokee Park, where Becca and I went hiking this weekend. We were in the main large open field at the top of the park, and I was looking into the woods, trying to find the quick route to where I wanted to go. The paths looked much more complex and uninviting than I remembered. Then I suddenly realized the truth of that: the actual paths were much easier. I started trying to visualize the easy paths over top of the paths I was looking at in the dream, to recreate these paths into the easy ones. I started getting a type of double-vision, seeing both at once, then I woke up. After I awoke, I thought this could possibly represent me making things harder than they need to be in real life, ie assuming the path is complex and difficult when it “really” is much easier. I decided that I will focus on seeing all tasks before me as easy and simple.
