We got a Border Bowl from Taco Bell the other day, and it was without tomatoes. At the time, I thought maybe they were just using the tomatoe scare to save some pennies on tomatoes, but it seems everyone is doing it. We got Subway yesterday, and no tomatoes.
It does make sense, though. If their tomato source could have been contaminated, I could easily see some lawyers "proving" that it was their fault when certain customers got sick, due to negligence, ie serving food they knew *might* have been contaminated. If this were a more forgiving sociey, they might not worry about it, but a lot of people are lawsuit-crazy in America.
Personally, while I miss tomatoes, I can understand the position of the restaurants. I'm sure if it were some permanent situation, they'd bring back tomatoes and just say "eat them at your own risk," but since it's a temporary thing, they're just waiting till their tomato supply is "proven safe" again.
