The deeper meaning of The Matrix

This goes along pretty well with the discussion we're having about The Logical Song in this thread

The deeper meaning of The Matrix
I was just thinking about watching The Matrix again last night. It's been a while. I absolutely love that movie. Here are some quotes from Morpheus that are fairly good matches for what I was saying in the other thread. To understand the connection, realize that The Matrix is a metaphor for the great lie that our society (and our ego) perpetuates to keep us under control: that we are mortal, non-magical beings. The truth is that this life is one in an infinite number of lives. We are eternal. Everything we do matters forever. We create our own eternal heaven and hell through our own choices. We are living it right now, and at the same time, we are completely free to change in any way at any moment. We are the ones who control our own destiny.

Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Into a prison that you cannot taste or see or touch. A prison for your mind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morpheus: I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morpheus: Free your mind.
